Regarding Smoothbores. They can be more accurate than what people think. Not as accurate as a rifle, but when used to shoot at the target for what they were intended to shoot at, they are quite dangerous out to at least 150 yards. Back in the day at 100 to 150 yards, if the soldier didn't get you with his aimed shot, he probably hit the guy to the left or right of you. If you were lucky in the kneecap, which would put you out of the war with one leg LOL. The one below is an original 1842 Springfield in 69 caliber used in both the Mexican American war and Civil War.
