Hot take: staying warm starts the night before

Eating a good meal before bed, staying hydrated and getting real sleep matter more than any piece of gear. I’ve seen guys show up exhausted and dehydrated, then wonder why they’re freezing in the stand. Cold-weather prep starts the night before. Agree or disagree?
 
I’ve shown up underprepared before, nothing fixes shivering like proper rest, food and hydration the night before
 
I'd say the above is true, but you can sabotage yourself in other ways also.

Early on I did lots of things wrong, in particular footwear. Too many socks, damp feet and everything that goes with that. I gave up on it for years before going back out with proper boots +.
