I've been thinking about taking my 5-year-old fishing for the first time, but I’m completely new to it. I’ve seen those kid-sized rods at the store and wondered if they’re worth it or if I should get something else. I want this to be a fun experience for my child, but I’m not really sure what setup is best for just getting started. Any tips on what's worked for you when fishing with a little kid? I really want to make it special for them.

That's awesome! I started my kid with a simple 4-foot spin rod and bobber setup, it is easy to handle, light, and fun. Snacks, patience, and lots of encouragement also made it memorable

Those kid-sized rods work great for a first trip, keep it simple with bobbers and worms. Have you thought about starting at a small pond?
