I go with 20 gauge for hunting, 12 gauge for home defense. For birds and small game, 20 does the job with less recoil and lighter carry weight. For HD, 12 gauge offers more versatility in load selection and stopping power. Anyone saying you must use 12 for everything is stuck in the past

I think it's about why you need it and if it's comfy. What gauge you choose is not about tradition but about what you shoot well and can carry easy. How well you handle recoil is more important than what the internet says.

I have a 12ga Ithaca 37 with 2 barrels. This covers all my shotgun needs from slugs to birdshot. I used a 20 in the past & loved it but now I only use the one.
