I'm wondering what solvents or solutions you folks use in your ultrasonic cleaners for parts. Do you buy the special ultrasonic cleaning stuff or do you use something cheaper that works just as well? Let me know what you've tried and what you recommend

Just about any mild surfactant will work. The microscopic bubbles are what do the cleaning. I would be careful using anything flammable as a fine mist of it can form over the top of the cleaner, especially when the liquid gets hot. Some, like Simple Green or mild caustic cleaners, can discolor aluminum and pot metal.
It also depends on the power rating of the US Cleaner. Some will dissolve aluminum foil; others are for delicate items like jewelry.
