When I first moved to West Virginia, I had to dig through the rules on concealed carry. It turns out that residents over 21 can carry without a permit, but I still got one for travel and reciprocity. The local sheriff’s office made it quick and easy but now I always keep up with the latest laws cause they can change fast. Has anyone here renew theirs recently or had any hiccups getting one?

Renewed mine last year. I travel to Va to visit family frequently and need it for reciprocity.
Not a problem, I just went to the Morgan County Sheriffs office and filled out the renewal paperwork.
I did have to show them a copy of my handgun safety course certificate.

I'm in Wheeling. Renewed mine twice, no problem. I tell everyone who thinks about carrying to go ahead take the class - to know when NOT to use deadly force. i also recommend joining the USCCW. Great monthly magazine, on-line training, and 2 million coverage legal fees if needed.

Same here, man. I got mine mainly for travel too, and the renewal was smooth, just a quick background check and new photo. I always double-check state laws before heading anywhere armed

When I first got mine I had to have at least one finger print or maybe thumb print taken. Just checked and looks like they eliminated that.

Sounds like Morgan County keeps it pretty straightforward. I’ve heard some counties drag it out, so good to know they just ask for the safety cert..

That’s good advice, knowing when not to shoot is huge. I’ve heard good things about USCCW too, that legal coverage alone sounds worth the membership.
