Everyone's putting red dots on everything now. Pistols, rifles, shotguns. I'm still using iron sights on most of my stuff and doing fine. Am I behind the times or is this red dot thing overhyped? Honest opinions wanted.

You’re not behind, red dots are great but irons still work just fine. Use what you shoot best.

IMO red dots cost too much! I've seen red dots like the Sig Romeo cost almost as much as the pistol. Also, red dots have too problems: (1) difficult to see in bright sunlight and (2) most are recoil sensitive. A friend mounted a $400 red dot on his 1911 in 10mm - it quit working after four shots. Now he has to fight the manufacturer. I have optical scopes on my rifles, plain bead sights on my shot guns, and plain irons on my hand guns. Life is good!

Here's a gun trend I don't understand: micro-compact semi auto pistols. Talk about a wrist breaker. Plus follow up shots are more difficult. These guys are funny, the pistol is small in size (length) but have an extended mag that makes it close in depth to a full sized pistol.

Hey, nothing wrong with old-school! Irons don’t need batteries, updates, or customer service calls 😂

Tiny gun, big snap, then a mag that makes it tall again. They conceal easy, but yeah physics still wins.

I enjoy reading reviews on anything related to firearms, especially safety equipment. Last night I was reading about hearing protection on a web page. It's funny in terms of cost. I saw "the best ear foam plugs" were $22 for 50 pairs - and the editor's overall pick was for an electronic headset for $420! I don't know how often folks swap out their hearing protector but anything costing more than $100 should last over 100 years.

Hobbies are just the disposable money thrown into them plus some fun.

A budd of mine raced cars ( late model dirt track) all his adult life. His son had to buy the Dad’s house to keep him going .
