Okay, here's a Picture of the Day thread for strange firearms. Post pics of any unusual firearms you find. I'll start with this crazy old pistol that I think has some weird engineering. You can also add a note about its history or why it's interesting, let's see your weird finds :)

An Elgin Cutlass Pistol, patented 1837, built by C.B. Allen of Springfield, Massachusetts. One of 150 contracted by the U.S. Navy for the Wilkes South Seas expedition of 1838-1842, led by Lt. Charles Wilkes. A .54 caliber single-shot with an 11" cutlass shaped knife permanently attached. This is reportedly the first percussion cap weapon purchased by the U.S. Military in any of it's branches. This example is serial number 80, and is located in the West Virginia State Museum.

Another example, serial number 45, sold at auction in 2011, and has the scabbard and brass tipped steel ramrod. The leather was restored.
